The Stud has bred and produced many very successful ponies, cobs and partbreds.

Section A

Waxwing Herrod merits special mention as he is the youngest native pony to have qualified for the prestigious In Hand Final at the Horse of the Year Show. Sold to Mark Bullen’s Imperial Stud in 1983, Herrod became the leading sire of mountain ponies in Australia for nine years. Waxwing Arien (Sec A) won the prestigious Glyn Greenwood Championship at the Ponies UK Summer Show and was Supreme Champion in Holland for three years.

Waxwing Penny Dainty was youngstock champion at the Royal of England while Waxwing Poppy Perkins was Female Champion there and her sister, Waxwing Poppin, has been a Multi-Champion in the USA. Waxwing Hurricane has been an exceptional sire of show winners in hand and under saddle; his brothers, Waxwing Hill Billy and Waxwing Halcyon have been leading sires of winners in Holland.

In recent years, the Stud has led the number of ponies of any breed qualified for the native ridden classes at the Horse of the Year Show. They include the mountain ponies, Waxwing Thumbs Up , Supreme Ridden Pony 2007 and Champion M&M Mini 2007; Waxwing Paint Box, Champion M&M Mini 2006. Others include: Waxwing Pastille, Waxwing Tiffany, Waxwing Pop Over and Waxwing Poppy Corn.

Section B

As efforts at the Stud have concentrated on breeding Section B ponies for Miss Gethin, Waxing ponies in this section have taken a back seat. Waxwing Curtain Call and Waxwing Garland have been major winners in the USA and Waxwing Janneke likewise in Australia.  Recently Waxwing Macari embarked upon a successful career as a sire in France where he also came fifth in the National Show Jumping Championships.

Miss Gethin’s Mynach ponies bred  here have enjoyed remarkable success accounting for no less than six Royal Welsh winners including Mynach May Flower, Mynach Flower Song, Mynach Oriana, Mynach Oceana, Mynach Mystical, Mynach Arcadia and Mynach Miss Prim.

By winning the St Johns Wells Trophy at the Royal Highland Show in 2007pictured opposite, Mynach Miss Prim and Mynach Arcadia made history as the first pair of Welsh ponies to claim this famous award.

Section C

Waxwing Reward also merits special mention since he not only took the Youngstock Championships at the Royal Welsh and represented the Stud at the In hand Finals at the Horse of the Year Show but he also won the Novice Ridden Picton Final at the NPS Championships. Waxwing Rhumba is another of the Stud’s Sec C’s that qualified for the In Hand Final at HOYS. Waxwing Review (Sec C) was Supreme Champion at the Victorian All Welsh Show in Australia. Waxwing Keepsake (Sec C) has been a regular qualifier for the Horse of the Year Show and best of breed in 2001. Waxwing Rheel has been another regular qualifier and best of breed at the prestigious Olympia Native Ridden Championship, his brother Waxwing Ragtime is already a champion of ridden classes.

Part-bred

Although the Stud doesn’t presently breed Part-breds, ponies carrying the prefix have been major winners in hand and under saddle including the HOYS qualified, Waxwing Tansy, Coriander, Waxwing Dreams of Glory and Waxwing Dreams Royal. As a 4 yr-old, Waxwing Magnum was judged champion Lead Rein Hunter Pony at the Royal International Horse Show in 2002. Waxwing Primula was the working hunter pony overall points champion in Scotland for several years.
